I have a Lawley tender with a Hubbard 2.5hp single cyl engine in it. The serial number of the engine is 9526. I am trying to determine when the tender may have been built and was wondering if there are any records of Hubbard serial numbers. I learned today that a friend of my father's said my father had told him the tender was built in 1902.

Any ideaa?

Thanks Jim Wormelle

Jim

Hubbard started making engines about 1900, they were sold for many yrs under the Victor brand name. With photos of the engine and its name plate its sometimes possibly to narrow down the year of mfgr.

In 1940 my cousin rolled his 34 chevrolet. The engine was ok so the old Hubbard, single cylinder in my Grandfathers 26 ft lobster boat was taken out and replaced with the Chev. The Hubbard was left on the dock with only a canvas thrown over it. Two years later my father said to my Grandfather " lets us use that old engine for an anchor". My Grandfather got upset and went for his oil squert can that he kept gasoline in and said "Thats still a good engine and I'll prove it to you. He opened the pet cock on the top of the cylinder, Squerted in some gas, gave the flywheel a quick flip and the old Hubbard went PUT PUT PUT. I was 15 at the time and I am still amused today as I was then. My Father didn't get his anchor.
