Coyote,
You can do a VIM search on this site.
http://www.oldmarineengine.com/discus/messages/2/10257.html
The above link will take you to one of the discussions on VIM.

Coyote: Just noticed your post: in case you run across references to the Vim truck (Phila, PA), that reportedly built an engine, presumably 4cyl, and the Vim Tractor Co (Schleisingerville, WI), sometimes listed as a one cyl engine builder, I did some research awhile back and didn't turn up any connections; apparently just coincidental use of the name.

Coyote: Overlooked mentioning I also found no connection between David Dunbar Buick and his Auto-Vim & Power Co (aka Buick Auto-Vim & Power Co), which became Buick M'f'g Co and then became Buick Motor Co, etc, and your Vim marine engine co.
His Co name was probably a play on "vim and vigor" if that was current usage in that time.
