I have a friend in the North Florida area who just picked up a single cylinder 8hp inboard marine engine. Brass tag reads: Johnson Motor Company, Chester Pennsylvania. Anyone ever hear of this company located in Chester Pennsyvania? Any info. I can not find anything in the books. I have not seen the engine but I will try to see if he can send me some photos. I also forgot to ask if it was a two or four cycle engine.

Talk about an old obscure Marine engine manufacturers name pulled out of a crevice of bygone history this is it.
(actually there are many more like this one)
Johnson Motor Company, Chester Pennsylvania to my knowlege isn't in any book or engine index lists for almost 80 years ! This 1909 rare photo ad is the only one I have ever seen.

Johnny if possible send or post here photos of the engine and a readable shot of the brass tag.
Good Stuff !

Thanks for the info Richard. I will see what I can do for photos but the gentleman that purchased the engine does not go on the computer or have a digital camera. So I will see if I can maybe get his son to take some photos and email them to me.
