Andrew,
restoration doing fine. I removed the piston for cleaning, and didn't pay attention to which way it was. Is the dam on the top supposed to point towards or away from exhaust port?

Ed,

The raised "dam" on the top of the piston should be close to the intake port (away from the exhaust port). There is some additonal description at the following link.
