At the Australian Heritage Fleet Museum at Sydney in Australia we have an unusual display engine.

Apparently the info from the donor is that it is an Evinrude Twin.

Some time ago, a contact saw a similar engine on display in the ACT, another State in Australia but we have no other info.

There's no engine plate or other identifying information.

I'm keen to get background on this type of engine, including, confirmation of its type, model, years the were available, other models, where made etc.

The guy in the pic is Wally, like me he's also a volunteer in the engine area of the museum.

More photos will take a while as neither the museum or I have a digital camera. I make enquiries of others and post them soon.

I'm away from my files for a while but I seem to recall that the Evinrude inboard twin was a cast en-block 2 cylinder with a flywheel mag like the outboards.

Envinrude circa 1927 - After some investigative work I've tracked down the lady who donated it. It was used by her parents in a rowboat before she was born.

Based on some papers in her possession she confirmed over the phone that it is an Evinrude circa 1927.

I have some copies of the docs coming by mail plus some original photos of the rowboat.

I provide some detail shortly.

Either an Envinrude Model DD or DDR. The daughter of the original owners sent us a scan of a letter her parents sent enquiring about new rings for the engines.

Does this help with getting some more background on this type of engine? Can anyone assist. I will have some closeup photos after we take it to the Davistown Putt Putt Regatta where it will be displayed by the Australian Heritage Fleet.

I had an Evinrude Twin with seperate cylinders like the one in the pic above. The later Evinrude Twins had an "enblock" cylinder with both cylinders and exhaust manifold in one casting. I currently still have the later engine.

Tim,

The model and serial numbers on evinrude inboards are usually stamped in the outer thin edge of the mounting flanges. I had to scrape all the paint off to find them on two different engs !
