i have one lockwood ash single cyl.do not know hp.it has the letter l and number 3064 on cyl.need any manuals and information .jimmy

Jimmy, Lockwood-Ash made three singles 1 1/2 HP,
2 1/2 Hp and a 4 Hp. All had different bores and strokes.Let me know either and we can determine Hp.

The 1 1/2 had a 1" crankshaft, 2 1/2 had a 1 1/8", 4hp had a 1 3/8". Two bolt water pump on the smaller engines, 4 bolt pump on the 4hp.

Almost forgot the model 41 4 cycle. I think they were rated at 4 and then 5 hp.

I got some good info from richarddurgee once before on the Model 41 L-A, but still don't know what carburetor this engine was equipped with originally. Also, any suggestions how to replace the missing intake manifold?

I have a good useable LA intake manifold with the built in check valve but don't know if it is the right size for your engine. Can anyone tell me if they are the same on all models.
Seems to me the carburetor was a Schebler Model D. Don't know what pipe size for your engine. My manifold takes the 1" Model D.

The manifold-check valve you have is probably for a 4hp 2 cycle if it's one inch.The model 41 is a 4 cycle using Model T parts. I have a parts manual on it, shows a Holley NH carb, I think this is a Model T carb. The manifold was cast and had an elbow in it, could be fabricated of pipe and flanges. If you need a copy of the manual let me know.

Mr. J.B. Castagnos, Any chance you could post a picture from that Model 41 Manual, the page that shows the carburetor and manifold? My engine has a home-made manifold that holds the carb up high on the engine and is running with a brass T Ford carburetor which would seem too large for the displacement of the single cylinder by about 4x. I'll see if I can lift any names/numbers from the carb I have.

I never could get my scanner to work with my new computer, I could fax you some info. It comes out from the cylinder, makes a 90, dropping at about a 45 degree angle to port side, another 45 at the bottom to level the carb at the base of the cylinder. The model t carb is right, it uses a model t piston and valves. The carb only feeds one cylinder at a time on the T.

That helps a lot, J.B. Do I understand right that the side draft intake points straight away from the engine? If so, that would not be hard to fabricate at all. Does your book specify what magneto was OEM? Mine has a later Wico. I never could get my scanner to work either, so I really understand. I don't have a fax mach. Thanks.

Yes, the carb opening faces out to the port side. According to my info engines below serial# 1200 had Bosch High Tension Magneto. Engines above 1200 had the Wico Magneto.

Can't say for sure Jack. Dick Gibbens has a running model 41, he may see this and post. Hold your hand over the carb and turn it, if it draws in, right direction, if it blows out, wrong.

Right, Easy for me, the hand crank is worth a thousand words! Sorry this took so long, I've been cleaning out my inlaw's shed! No engines, but I did get a nice cypress push pole and a paddle! Also a pirogue and several dozen victor traps. BTW, I saw a trap spring on a exhaust valve once! I might try that! Dick Gibbens

Thanks, Dick, but the crank isn't an original. Now the question: Does the 41 have a "suck-open" intake valve or a cam & tappet? Suck-open engines can be timed at cam gear and mag drive to run either direction. This one sets the impulse cranking clockwise as you look at the flywheel (stern). I havn't torn it down, don't really think I need to except to see what makes it tick. All marine engines I've worked on up to now ran the opposite direction.???

The intake valve is cam operated. Correct, the engine is right hand rotation. Dick Gibbens
