I bought a 4 hp motorgo from an old guy. he had bought a 2.5 hp motorgo 30 years ago for $25, and found a nice 4 hp for parts. He proceeded to take the water pump, and timer from the 4 hp and tried to fit on the 2.5 hp. they didn't really match up, but he didn't care. Since he already had a nice tag on the 2.5 hp, he went ahead and ground of the numbers on the 4 hp timer cover, and put on the 2.5 Why? who knows.

Bill talk to some of you local law enforcement and see if they don't have techniques to recover serial numbers filed off guns that might be able to recover the number from the back side of the cover. Just a faint hope in an otherwise disgusting situation.

bill look on the front of crank shaft by the centering hole the serial number is stamped around the hole.on my 2 1/2 and 6hp motorgo the number is on the end of crank. might need some sandpaper to help clean area. on a 2 1/2 hp lockwood-ash the number 21973 is stamped on crank, brass tag,and point cover. hope this will help get those number back where they belong.
