Can anyone help?
I have a Sabb 8hp single cylinder diesel in a 14 foot river launch.
I have fitted the engine with rubber engine mounts on the main engine brackets, and directly to the oak engine bed with the g/box mounts/brackets.
Engine and shaft run well, but the engine has a lot of vibration! And I am concerned that it may damage the shaft (direct couple to the prop shaft).
Can and should I fit the engine directly to the substantial oak frame to reduce the vibration? Would this reduce the vibration? Thanks

Single cylinder engines are notorious for vibration. Most boats were designed around an engine, if yours is original I would think the rails were designed for the engine. Try finding a throtle position that creates the least vibration and run her there. Most older engines were directly mounted to the bed frame.

Thanks for your feedback/advice. My boat had a S&T single cylinder petrol engine in her. I fitted the SABB last winter. She runs with less vibration at half throtle, so try to run her at that. Could I, and should I take out the rubber engine mounts, and bolt the engine directly to the frame, whould that help?
