Thanks Bruce, my brother in law is the photographer, his lens wouldn't zoom, had to do far shots. I have over 300 to choose from.

Thanks John, good to see a response. I like this site but of the sites I participate in this one has the least activity. When no one responds it makes you wonder if no one is watching, they didn't like your post, or they just don't care.

I suspect there are a number of us with the same hope - I know I would like very much to get there one of these years. These pictures and Miro's video of running the Union engine are terrific. And those bateaus would be great fun cruising on the Connecticut River. Thanks for posting. Dick

Hi - Related to 25th image which shows cannon firing. Please we have one of these but do not know if it is a signal gun or a line throwing gun. Can anyone supply info on this small cannon?

John Davis and Dick Briggs, I hope y'all can make it down, it's a fun gathering of people with a common interest, a lot of discussions and some problems solved.

Dick Day, should see you in a couple of weeks.

I hear you JB. I have posted engine ads occasionally or other marine related bits and pieces I found interesting. There hasn't been much feedback so maybe I was posting things only interesting to a few nerds like myself. As you know, it does take a certain amount of effort to post ads, etc. It takes time to scan an ad into a digital file, copy the ad (always save the original and work only on the copy), trim the borders, repair damage or discoloration that affects the visual appearance, adjust contrast and sharpen as necessary to make it more readable, ad a bit of text indicating date and origin of the ad, open the OME site, find an appropriate topic to post into, go back to the file to import the ad to the OME site,(one at a time if posting more than one ad), add text to the post if needed, preview, edit, and then hit the post button. Feedback only has to consist of a single word and it doesn't even have to be positive, i.e., great, thanks, boring, more, less, neat, etc.

Harry's Smokstak page has a thank you button, you can read and click without having to post, don't know if that feature could be added to this site.
In case I missed some, I always enjoy yours and Richards post, so here's a thank you.

Well I certainly enjoy the posts and the overwhelming effort it seems, to provide them. IMO, my meager computer skills preclude me posting but I sure do appreciate every contribution here.

From where I sit on this continent, if it wasn't for this web site, I never would have found and made such good friends and kindred spirits.

The pictures form this year's "do" tell the whole story.

My collection of engines is nowhere near some of the others, but I sure do appreciate what these engines do and the people who designed and manufactured them.

Best of all, our collective pal Richard D. in Florida deserves special mention as the collective memory bank that amazes me almost every time he posts something.

J.B.

The photos are great, looks like a bigger turn out every year, your annual Louisiana get together
and Belle River Sunday along with your shop and machine work has become a hub of inspiration for those of us interested in the old boat engines, your intellectual and practical mechanical abilities mixed with an unending energy source and southern hospitality affect us all and give a source to this common interest that is invaluable.
So I'm voting J.B. Catagnos as Old Marine Engine "MAN OF THE YEAR" no formal voting needed !
Dickie Gibbens Said it best when I mentioned your name to him many years ago "I,m proud to know him".

As to the subject of very little response on this web site in the last several years it's perplexing. To think that only those interested in
old marine engines come to this discussion site and yet for reasons unknown take little or no part in it ?
In my case a big part of the hobby was to find out about the manufacturers and try to date these old relics, a data base evolved after several years of written lists, it now has 1980 names of North American Marine Engine Manufacturers and some basic info of each when available. Think of it if we took one mfgrs name per week and discussed it here it would be about 38 years to get through the list ??
From the lack of involvement on this site to even think of publishing is scary at best, costs of a book this large or as it should be published in data base form on a disc that can be copied easily
does mot make it worthwhile even on a break even financial basis ??

These old Marine Engines and those people interested still make life much More interesting and richer and for that I am most thankful!

Hi from down under,
As relative newcomer to old marine engines and this forum, I
have come to enjoy following all that goes on in your part of the world, the great variety of engine manufacturers and the diverse bunch of people that own and restore them.

Hope to get up and see as many as I can one day.

Kev
P.s would love to get to J.B' camp. Looks like fun

Thanks Richard, that's a lot more than I was expecting.
Kevin, if you make it to the states be sure to look us up, we'll give you a tour of the area if it's not time for the camp get together.

Posting this for Jay Zeigler.

I have read with great interest the numerous post since J.B.took up the subject. First let me say that the gathering at J.B's in March is unlike anything you've experienced before. The "show and tell at J.B's. and the tour of other collectors and their wares not to mention the eats of the region provided by the wives. Not being familiar with the little marine engines as I'm from the mid-west where there was always a double flywheel engine to challenge your patients but I'm totally hooked. While not a contributor I do spend several hours each day reading what others have posted. I usually start with the oldest post on a subject and read forward, this provides an overlay as to how conclusion are drawn. I as well as others appreciate the time and efforts of those who provide this material. Please continue to do ink as it is much more permanent that the memory..... Thanks Jay
