What should the compression be in a healthy P 60? (Sorry to have to ask; search function didn't turn up anything)

I have gone through all the Palmer related material I have regarding the IHC C-60 Cub Lo-Boy engine and I cannot locate any references to what the normal compresssion for that model engine should be.
I suggest you ask any IHC Tractor Dealer what the normal compression should be for a IHC Cub Lo-Boy, C-60 engine. Do not talk Palmer or marine engine and do not talk IHC Cub Cadet engine that is an entirely different engine. The P-60 is the IHC CUB Lo-Boy C-60 engine which Palmer marinized and nothing they did would change the compression from the IHC C-60 engine.

On the farm websites that i go to they say a healthy 184 should have 120 psi compression. An older cub is a some less. You could go to www.cub.com if you want.

Thanks to both of you. A good link seems to be www.farmallcub.com. For those like me without years of experience working with engines, there's some good info there about diagnosing and dealing with common problems with the C 60 engine. Not all of it is pertinent to boat engines, of course, but useful nonetheless. From the homepage, click on the "forum" link. They have a section specifically for the LoBoy series.

I have a bristol pilot with a Palmer M-60. It wont start. Cant find anything abnormal with points , plugs, etc. I have spark and timing is right on. Gas is good. But the compression is low on all cylinders at about 70 psi. What could cause the compression to be low all around? This not starting came on suddenly although I let her sit awhile usually. My mechanic wants to rebuild the engine.

Is there anything I can do short of a rebuild or engine replacement?

sudden events like this are generally is caused by something else like water pump failure and over heating. Squirt some oil in the cylindered to bring the compression up temporarly and see if it will start. If you are lucky enough to get it started, check the coolant flow. Did you pull the plugs? any rust on the tips? Your mechanic is most likely right. Good luck.
