Does anyone have a Strauble twin with the original mixer running? I am working on a 10 hp twin with the Straubel mixers which appear to have never been messed with and have a lot of questions. How well do they work and how are they adjusted? They appear to have a poppet valve which is seated with a light spring which is adjustable with a dial. As the poppet valve lifts up it opens a course needle valve allowing gas to puddle on the tip of a brass stem. The air flow is adjustable with a shutter like device. What is the vertical round stud with four flat surfaces shaped much like a soldering iron? Straubel engine as foundStraubel mixermixer partly apart

I decided to post a couple of pictures of my completed Straubel 10 hp. Turns out the mixers work great. I did notice the needles became rather sensitive as the gas got low in the tank. As usual JB had the answer and sent me a period after marked float assembly which solved the problem, keeping the gas pressure constant on the needles. I got busy and made a pattern and core box and had a float bowl cast. I used a modernTecumseh float . The float bowl shows in on of the pictures behind the flywheel. This engine restore turned out out to be a long one. It took 4 years and 4 foundries before I was able to get a good exhaust manifold. Can Do Metal in St Ann Ill finally figured out that if you mould the pattern vertical and gate at the bottom the inrush of hot iron would not break the cooling jacket core which is only 1/4" thick. These are easy starting and easy to reverse engines.

Looks great Dick, I'm working on a project now that may need the vertical pouring trick, glad you found someone to solve the problem.
