THIS SOUNDS STUPID.....BUT
would it be very difficult to de-marinise a stuart r3 just to take to steam rallys? would i need to fit a radiator or hopper cooled
any info would be helpful |

Not difficult at all.
Remove and blank pump.blank top water connection and internal feed to
exhaust.
Remove blank in cyl head fit stub pipe.
Connect top and bottom water connections to a cooling tank ensuring top
connection on tank is higher than cyl head and that should be it.

Matt ,if you look at my signature you will a pic of a Stuart Turner R3M that I rebuilt so that I could take it to a rally, in fact it fits easly in the back of my ute.
The only thing different about it is that it is not in a boat! Every thing has been retained and instead of, as it would have been, drawing water from the river/sea it comes from a hopper and is discharged back into the hopper. Removing and blanking off the water pump is a retrograde step .....people are facinated by the reciprocating pump .Also it provides some brass and copper to polish. You will see that I also have the prop shaft and prop .You can demonstrate the interesting reversing gear box to observers.It is an easy and interesting exhibit ........and you dont see many ,infact mine is the only one around here !

is it ok to mount the waterpump on the side of a barrel? will it still draw if its horizontal? i think i will put the stern tube from the scrapped boat it is out of onto the side of a big clear plasitc bin, put the propshaft through,add propelor and have the prop going around in the water! |

How will you drive the pump??? LEAVE IT WHERE IT IS!
Your idea of water is fine but an easier way is to use polystyrene beads .....No leaks! |
