Hi everyone,
Am hoping to buy an old direct drive Gaines gearbox for use with my 3hp 2 stroke Watermota, mounted on a 1925 dinghy.
Am told the box is in good condition, but would be grateful for any tips or advice. The box is clutch operated with reverse gear.
Many thanks,
Ivor.

Back again!
Have looked everywhere but still have no information on a GAINES gearbox, which I hope to match with a 3hp Watermota. No mention of this box, having looked in the SEM magazine as well as on many web sites.
Look forward to hearing back from any Forum member.
Many thanks,
Ivor.

Watermota were at Newton Abbot, Devon, England. One of their products employed a Petter diesel engine of about 6HP driving a reduction gearbox. The gearbox had no reverse. This may have been the "Super Shrimp" as the original Shrimp only had a 3HP air cooled petrol engine. Allegedly the old Shrimp spares were sold to Sheridan Marine. Allegedly the present day Watermota has remodelled itself and no longer deals with antique machinery.

The reversing propeller gear is hard to find as with it being brass/bronze it has value as scrap metal. Here are some links:-

Sheridan no longer have spares for these

Note that Sabb also used a feathering propeller with some of their engines.

Good luck!
