Bob Holcomb sent in scanned images of Atwater Kent, Bemus, and Cuno timers. They seem to be a good resource. I will post them below, but I will also post them on a regular web page with higher resolution so they will be easier to read. Thanks Bob...

An old friend brought me timer to try and find out what it was for. I have never seen one like this one. Bronze and well built. Cannot think of any marine engine that it might fit on. Note the sand cast finished has not been polished. I have attached two photos that may be recognized by someone somewhere.Unknown timer

I have noted a common design thread amongst a number of different timers. The cut in this frame is from the c.1908 Truscott catalog. It refers to that timer as of the French LaCoste pattern. That helps tie together all those similar timers that I've seen as to origin of the concept. The timer in Dick's post above is of the general design though it appears to be missing a part. The timer pictured in this frame is from a Fifield Brothers Capital engine, Augusta, Maine. It is virtually identical to the LaCoste design.

I recently bought out an estate collection of engines and parts. In the boxes of parts I found whats left of what appears to be a Bemus timer 4 cylinder. I'll try to post a photo.

That's a rare one with four contacts. The usual self-destructing pot metal body! Looks like someone may have machined themselves a new base out of brass too. The flimsy sheet brass cover probably split in half and this is what you have left - not in the same league as Cuno Engineering Co. at all!

Bemus went from expensive cast brass bodies with long handles like the Cuno to the pot metal junk. Why they didn't start with a decent brass stamping for the bodies & handles like Cuno did is anyone's guess.

Here's another one 'rebuilt' by someone with some skill and determination. They used the original steel base, despite the rust.
