I noticed a recent interest in vibrator coil rebuilding posted in the Atwater Kent discussion.

About 10 years ago a web site was prepared to provide technical Information for Paul, who completed a magnificent restoration of a 1913 Mullins Launch. Paul installed a 4HP St Lawrence two-cycle engine having neither prior experience nor understanding of engines of this vintage and style, thus experienced many operational issues resulting in frequent paddling back to launch site.

The web site is no longer published so as a service to members who may be contemplating rebuilding, adjusting or using vibrator coil ignition, Ive printed the applicable subjects. As these were written for web publishing, the images are not high quality when printed and scanned and the animation is not functional. Hopefully the content is readable. Unfortunately many of the external links are no longer available.

The original web site comprised 14 SUBJECTS. To facilitate discussion, Ill post the three ignition related pages in separate posts referencing the SUBJECT descriptions as follows.

SUBJECT 6 - Spark Plug and Vibrator Coil Operation

SUBJECT 7 - Rebuilding and Adjusting Vibrator Coil

SUBJECT 8 - Ignition Timer with Information about Electronic Replacement

Incidentally, Paul quickly mastered his engine and enjoys many hours of slow speed cruising. His paddle is rarely used.
