We have received the following comments, photos, and questions from Wayne Hancock. Great looking engine. Use the search link above, Wayne, to search for all discussions concerning Mianus, some may be in other parts of the board.

It's interesting to see the Warranty. I believe that the word that is crossed out is "Gasoline", maybe Wayne can confirm this.

I presently have a 5 HP Mianus Motor. This motor has been restored and is in mint condition. I have located the "Life Guarantee" - that was issued at the time the engine was purchased by my great grandfather on May 18, 1914 in the little fishing community of Portland Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. I cannot locate any information that would indicate what he would have paid for it at that time, maybe you could help me there. The engine number isidentified as #33404. The engine still has its name plate attached to the cylinder which shows the Patent No. and date.

I would be pleased to send you a digital photo of this engine if you wish, can it be posted to a web site for others to see what this type of engine looked like.

I would appreciate any additional information you can give me on this engine.

Thank You

and

Thank You for your quick reply to my e mail. I have taken four pictures of the engine (one from each side) if you wish to add to to the web site, please feel free to do so, you may pick the picture (s) that you wish. In another e mail I am sending you the warranty that was issued when the engine was bought that shows the ddate it was bought.

As I mentioned this engine was purchases by my great grandfather and used in the fishery on the Labrador Coast for a great many years. It was restored about 15 years ago by my Late Father Eldon Hancock of St John's
