I was looking for a safe way to clean my motor, without taking it apart. I found this on the net, a bit involved but worth reading. http://nautarch.tamu.edu/class/anth605/File10b.htm#Sodium

You'll have to take it apart to use that method. Soda blasting is the only method I know of that will clean dirt and old paint off steel, brass & glass without damaging those surfaces.

Can be done wet too, with a pressure washer, a gravity or air feed pot and a blasting tip for your pressure washer.
