Hello from Oz. Apart from putt-putting around Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra, and working on a twin Blaxland engine and Chapman 16 ft launch, I have been investigating Explosion Whistles as fitted in place of the priming cup or via a plug adaptor on early auto engines. I do have a copy of a brochure by Buell Manufacturing Co of Chicago, and a photo of a similar one, from the net(www.whistleman.com/image039, and 041). They are about 3 inches long, 1 1/2 inches diameter and fitted with a poppet valve. Has anyone had experience with making one of these? How different are they to steam whistles? From the images I can see that the chime model appears to have a ring orifice, whereas the single tone sound hole appears bigger but I cannot see the gas orifice configuration. Any tips?
John

Anyone knows where I could find castings and?or drawings to make a steam whistle, say from 1 to
1-1/2 inch inlet?
