Jamie Hurry picked up this Gile at Portland. Haven't checked the previous post on Gile but it seems to be close to the Detroit-Caille-American engines.

Hi JB, nice engine - that exhaust port sure is close to the top of the mixing valve ( carb?)
I wonder what kind of piping was used in an installation.

Jamie & JB

In the late 1890's Harry B. Maxwell was granted patents on a 4 cycle valve mechanizm and carburetors. I have not researched these patents.

by 1904 the Company Incorporated and Fitch became partner then, forming "The Maxwell & Fitch Company"

Rare few photo ads and little reference to the Co. a 1907 ad refered to their engine as " The Perfect Power"

This 1909 ad shows the 1 1/2 - 2 Hp and goes by the trade name "PARADOX" They also made other Hp engines but their design was a little different.

Maxfitch

By 1910 the engine is listed in this Rome Gasoline Engine ad and refered to as "MAFCO" engines for Maxwell & Fitch, Rome Gas eng Co. also mfgd the Van Epps in this year ?

Rome10

The last year of production was 1912 ca.

Nice CADY JB - it is just like mine with the exception of mine having an Atwater-Kent timer.

And thanks for the call last night.
