Invaluable post, Richard, showing clearly the relative esteem in which various marques were held after the new had worn off their engines. Now, from the rich ore of your collection, can you mine anything concerning a (California) Doak marine?

Thanks, Richard--obviously a high-class outfit. Their 300 hp size must have had a whopping clutch! The reverse pot on the 250 hp 6-cyl Union was darn near the size of a 55-gal. drum.

There is a no-name 3 HP on the list, and if they didn't know who made it, it must have been rare.

Very interesting engines, Richard, overhead exhaust and horizontal intake valves, downdraft intake ports with overhead manifold, priming cups draining into ports or manifold instead of cylinder, geared governor and interesting carburetor placements, everything very skookum and lots more to learn.
