Greetings to all. I am an antique dealer-collector in Georgia. I purchased an antique Pierce Engine Company "yacht wheel"from another antique dealer who bought it"at an estate sale of a gentleman in Panama City, FL. who was a collector of nautical antiques". It is a beautiful brass-casting, having six-spokes with lathe-turned wood knobs. The wheel, with its cast letters looks VERY similar to the flywheel of the 1905 Pierce engine ad/photos which Mr. Richard Durgee provided bgoss and others on this forum. Subsequently,I online-researched Andrew.J.Pierce,with much information thanks to you marine-engine enthusiasts and your discussions. Also contacted Ms. Braun of the Racine, Wisconsin museum who was also very helpful regarding this amazing and innovative man, his company and contributions to Americanmarine, auto and manufacturing industries.
Your comments and discussion regarding what type of boat this wheel was designed for, rareity and any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards, Jim/old rebel (new to O.M. discussion)
