Just acquired this engine, probably built 1930's
Single cylinder side valve. Magneto ignition. Guessing at about 5 hp.
It looks as if it will run.
Has anybody got information on this?
BMM = British Motorboat Manufacturing Co.
Thanks, Dave

I have recently bought a Brittania Stalwart Type SM1 Serial No, 4053. Solex 26 MHD Carb. BTH magneto,sounds similar to yours. Havent been able to get any manual or info. so I presume they are scarce. Mine is almost a runner, just needs more tinkering. Jim.

Hello Jim,
Thanks for the reply. Mine has a Wico mag which is gear driven. Somebody has welded the gear on the mag, and I think the coil is caput, so I did spend a bit time trying to get a coil at a reasonable price with no luck. Your post here has got me going again!
I think mine will run if I can get the mag sorted.
I'll check the s/n and the carb type.
Where are you?
Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the prompt reply.I live in Fife in Scotland. Ive tried everywhere for a manual but so far nothing. My next move is to send pics to Patrick Knight. The drive for the mag on mine is a cam on the end of the camshaft which flicks the mag.I had one of these engines previously and the mag was gear driven.If you have my email address, can you get in touch and I will send pictures. Regards, Jim.}

Hi Dave, I cant seem to be able to attach my pictures. Let me have your email address or phone number and I will send them to you direct. Please how many teeth are on the drive gear for the magneto and the number of teeth on the gear attached to the magneto. Jim.
