I have recently bought a boat that has a marinised Perkins 6.354 in it, I am having problems finding out the Engine and Serial No. I checked the Perkins website and found the location for the number below the fuel pump and sure enough there was a number there, it looked like this:

8051648 0
4}
I contacted the local Perkins/Sabre Dealer and they said the number didn't make any sense to them. I know from their website what the number is supposed to look like but I can't find anything that looks similar on the engine. Any ideas? suggestions?

I agree the number does't look correct. The serial number is below the fuel INJECTOR pump on the right angle drive. Normally you have to look down on the flat part. Years ago before the internet i had one apart and couldn't find the serial number in any of the parts books where i wanted to buy parts. So i took some of the gaskets and parts over to the local massy fergeson dealer. The mechanic there could id the parts as the same as one of their engines. A few years later perkins posted the numbers on their site. There are some key parts that where changed on differant engines produced in differant countries. You could post pictures and i could give my best guess. Its not uncommom to see numbers near where the pump and drive meet, those are not the serial numbers. Look farther away. |

I should check my notes before typeing stuff. I looked at some of my old engines and the 1966 one has a serial number 851c300 with an h above it.The 65 and 68 engines are similar. So your number maybe too old for the guys at perkins to know. Could the 1 in your number be an i, that would make it a mid 60's engine. If thats what it is most parts for massy tractors and combines for the 60's will fit. Not the marine stuff though. |

Looks like you could be correct everything seems to point to the mid-60's, according to the CAV injection pump website the DPA letters on the pump make it a 62. The guy at SabrePerkins in Aberdeen has been really helpful as well. He contacted the Perkins helpdesk and gave them the numbes I found and he has got a build number for the engine from them, so I will be able to order parts against that. He didn't give me any other information on the engine regarding age, hp etc' but I have mailed him again asking if he has any more details

I have a 1977 Perkins 6.354 130 horsepower diesel engine. I can't seem to find the specs for the pressure rating on the heat exchanger pressure cap. Thanks.
