We have an old Volvo Penta MD-1, Serial number 11981, and we are trying to do a complete rebuild for it: Main and rod bearings, new piston, new valve springs, oil pump, gaskets, etc. We've been searching on the web, but we haven't had much luck in locating parts. Anyone know a good source for parts and information? We would also like to find the year for our engine, but the Volvo Penta site doesn't go back further than the late '80's. Ours is old, but simple, and we'd like to put it back in service. Thanks for any help!

www.marinepartsexpress.com
www.frenchcreekmarina.com
www.marinepartseurope.com this one tells you what is available/obsolete
www.crommarine.se

Parts are available from Volvo so in theory any Volvo Dealer should be able to help. There are pdf copies of the manual available on the web just google Volvo MD1 manual to find them.

The MD47 as I understand it is pretty much obsolete for parts. I turned up this possibility but it was posted in 2001

Gaskets can be made though either out of copper or in the case of exhaust manifolds graphite and will work fine. Also I recommend the following company for getting obsolete gaskets made, you send them the old one for a pattern and they make you a new one or you send a template with material specifics.
