I have a Palmer P60 in a 1973 Islander 30 MKII.

While the engine has run fine for over 30 years I would like to add a tachometer as I am changing over to a Flexofold folding propeller.

Any ideas how to do this?

Moyer Marine has a 4000 rpm tach that is easy to wire and works great. I also added the heat exchanger they offer. I moved to Fl. and didn't like the idea of running salt water through the engine.

Because I knew a friend who worked for Stewart-Warner, I got a mechanical tach - there's a port for a mechanical tach on the back of the "accessory drive" thing. If I recall correctly, you need to specify that it's for a gas engine, where it's driven at 1/2 crank speed, rather than a diesel.

I have a mechanical tach, and need a cable. Where do I get one? The manufacturer is Hudson, apparently.

Truck repair shops keep kits to make tach and speedo cables, everything is cut to length and crimped together. They may be able to help.

Try a place that outfits/creates/repairs taxicabs. That's where I got the cable for my mechanical tach. I think I found them by looking under "speedometer repair" in the yellow pages. They're all involved in speedometer and cable and instrument stuff because of having to install taximeters and calibrate odometers - though perhaps nowadays it's all electronic.
