I have talked to another palmer owner locally and he says you can expect to burn about two pints an hour, is this about right? I am trying to figure out how much gas to take on a 60 mile trip in case I need to motor all that way. Thanks George

I had an Ericson 32 with a P-60. At about 6.1 knots it would use about 8/10 of a gallon per hour. I had a discussion with another P-60 owner and I forgot exactly what he said but if I recall correctly it was similiar. I'm over 50 and in my life only about 3 people I've ever talked to were accurate about fuel economy, especially in their cars. You should do your own experimenting in any case if you need to figure out your range.

I use about 3/4 gallon per hour at 1800rpm and 5.5 knots in a Morgan 281. This is a low throttle setting.

This is with a Paragon reversing gear, so the prop is driven at crankshaft speed.

If you assume about 1 gallon per hour for every 10 hp and check the torque/hp curve for your cruising rpm you'll be in the ballpark.

I also have a Morgan 281 (23.5 foot LWL) and get very similar consumption to mainesails above. At about 6.5 knots it would be about 1.2 gals/hour.

Karl, I would get 8/10 gph with my Ericson 32 but only after throttling back from a top speed of 6.4 knots to about 6.2 knots. Wide open I would get closer to 1.2 - 1.3 gph. Backing off 1 - 2 tenths of a knot from top speed made that much difference.
