Hi All,

i am afraid i have not an old engine fan but am here to get advice from you experts. i have been given a boat with a ST P5 MRE, with the numbers 50A376 - 4 - 1500. the boat is 14' 6", fibreglass with wood trim and about 12 years old but has never been in the water!. I believe the engine was reconned before it went in but has not run since. what i would like to know is if it is worth keeping or should i replace it with a new engine (could be costly) or put an outboard on the back. i have heard these engines have to be pampered and can be unreliable, which is not what i want as i have kids, i will be out in the harbour and don't want to worry about reliability!. Also, if i decided to get rid of it does anyone know how much it would be worth?. i would like to have added a photo but this site will only allow me to upload files under 100k?!. any info or advice would be gratefully accepted, thanks for your time.

Jack.

I use Irfanview to resize pics. Cut out the frame you want from pic, then resize it to 640 x pixels. Should be ok then

Hello Jack, I am rebuilding a P5 MRE for a friend and they are everything you have suggested.If the engine and gearbox is complete I would like to buy it for spares. Talking about an outboard, a friend brought a Yamaha single cylinder in for me to show him how to service it, this I did. He had bought it on e-bay and paid £60 for it, run it? I asked, 2 pulls it was away. So the moral of the story is there are outboard bargains out there BUT, you need some sort of warranty or note to assure you and give you time to prove it's not a pig in a proverbial. Regards, Ken King.}}}

Hi Kenneth,

thanks for the info, i shall keep you in mind when i make my decision on which way to go. i don't mind spending out on a decent outboard or even a new inboard if the boat will be worth it after she is finished. i will perhaps have to talk to amarine engineer to see whats best. i forgot to mention the engine has all the electrics in place which i have read is a good thing to have?!.

Thanks George i have resized a couple so you will have to zoom in.

cheers.
