Hello! I have a mahogany race boat from 1929, and I have heard that when it was made, it had a 6-cylinder Universal engine. Can anyone tell me what was the most high-performance 6-cylinder engine Universal had available in 1929?

Jani, Google www.clrmarine/553 for a compiled history of Universal Engine Company. Also put Universal "VH" in the search function of this Old Marine Engine website. There is discussion of the Model VH having an aluminum block, twin Stromburg carbs and a Ricardo head. It was only available during the period your race boat was built. Rated 70 Hp at 3000 RPM. How long is your hull? Can you share pictures here?

Hi Bruce! Here are some pictures of the boat. http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l586/Vesiapina/Sikari0033.jpg and http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l586/Vesiapina/sikari_vanhempi2.jpg and http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l586/Vesiapina/Sikari4.jpg . She's 9,60 meters long and in the 50's the second owner got her run 60 knots with a V8 Ford Flathead. The pictures are from the 50's. The boat was made in Åbo Båtvarf (Turun Veneveistämö) in Finland, and she was an experiment, kind of a prototype.

Hi Jani. That boat looks fantastic. I am restoring a 20 racers with a universal six. Ive had no luck finding any parts to restore mine. Heres a link http://www.cawpba.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=67
Do you have any pics of the boat today? Thanks Dave Pagano Australia.
