Any one got any ideas for reattaching the name plate to the cylinder?

Small screws(use rounded flat drive if you can find them for authenticity), drill and tap the casting.

Or use a bit of copper or better still bronze, rod to make some small rivets. You can peen the head over (you may have to anneal a few times). Use some epoxy to secure the rivets in the holes in the casting.
