How brands of four cycle engines were made before 1915? I am looking for one. I would like to locate one about 8 hp two cylinder. Thanks for your help. Happy New Year. May your boat float and engine keep running through the new year.

An 8hp 4 stroke from this era was generally a heavy engine. My 1905 Union 8HP weighs 1200lbs. A 5hp Buffalo is probably 600lbs. Later engines were lighter, 1920 5hp Lockwood Ash 4 stroke is probably under 200lbs.

Thanks JB. It looks like aluminum Pistons won't help much.
