Hello...

I'm a collector of hit/miss farm engines, but I'd like to add a 1cyl marine engine to the collection. For a more common one, 2 cycle, buzz coil fired, say a Gray or a Detroit, what would be a fair price for a complete and free engine? I've seen them anywhere from $300 to $1000, so I'm unsure as to a fair price.

Also, from what I understand, most 2 cycle 1 cyl engines do not have a governor. If I was to mount an engine on skids with a tank for cooling, how would I moderate the engine speed?

Thanks...

Chris

Chris,

Price is difficult to generalize about. As with farm engines the condition and the particular make and model is important. Also with marine engine there is the added factor of "salt vs fresh water" use. I would suggest that you look at the classifieds here and on other sites and in magazines to see that the asking price tends to be.

Also we try not to have this site get into "what is it worth" discussions. As you have probably seen from the other posts we are very anxious to help you with research, rebuilding, repair, running, etc... but price/value is much less interesting.

I don't mean to put you off, we are very glad to have you here.

Regards,
Andrew
