This engine was used by the owner's grandfather to power his boat on the Fraser River in the early years of the last century. As he apparently never ventured out into salt water, the engine survived! Any comments/info would be appreciated.

Nice complete engine. I don't know anthing about it but the oiler is interesting. The barrel style oilers I'm familiar with were all gravity fed, with the sight glass on the bottom. This one seems to be pressure fed, one line coming off the cylinder for pressure, the sight glasses are at the top.

Robert

What a super old marine engine !

Do you have a readable photo of the name plate ?
if not what are the exact words on it, will help to date it !

Probably should have mentioned that it is important to know whether the tag is Trebert Gas Engine Co, HLF Trebert or Brownell Trebert. Also, Rochester NY or Butler IN.

More pics would be great.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Unfortunately I did not remember to photograph the name plates (there are two; one on each side), but I will find out what they say and post here.

After looking at the pictures and a few ads I would guess this is from the Trebert Gas Engine Co.
HLF Trebert Co was formed in 1903, but henry Trebert left to form another company in 1904. Henry Trebert started Trebert Auto & Marine Motor Co, and his partners went on with the Trebert Gas engine co.

Trebert Gas Engine Company built a car in 1907. Relocated to Butler IN about 1908 when one of the partners was killed in an auto accident.

Henry Trebert joined forces with Frank Brownell in 1906 to form Brownell Trebert. That lasted a couple of years.

After they split they had their own companys. Trebert went on to build auto, marine and aircraft engines.
