Hi, Andrew,
Have been away from the real world for a while with work. Hoping to correct this....
I have attached a jpeg of my Zealandia engine which is probably 1908-1910 and made in NZ by a firm Hoiland and Gillett who started in 1904 and rapidly became quite productive making this sort of engine and multi cylinder variants. This one runs very well. It appears original. The inlet valve is automatic, carburettor conventional but their own design. The operation of the low tension spark is very ingenious being run by a cam off the camshaft which has a cage with one large roller in it which is moved radially to advance and retard. They made them up to 1915 and then couldn't compete with the imports and became Buick agents almost up to WW2. BTW who is it that supplies original type coils for old enines, my one is very battered these days.
Keep up the good work. I have just revamped my web site and will post it in the next few days.
Kind regards Russell.
