This is my solution to fixing a 7 hp Vivian head.It has the typical expansion cracks but the water passages were eaten away betwen the stud bolts,Vivian machined a step approx .300 deep resulting in a thin (aprox .100 thick)web.
the solution is to braze a new plate on the mating surface,but where do you find a piece of cast iron plate thick enough... Last year i had time to read when i was assigned to the local county jury duty and read an advertisement that described the process of how a cast iron frying pan was made.they used a close grain cast iron in their
process. I put out the word i needed a retired cast iron pan that was big enough.
