I noticed there is some discussion on the Blaxland section about the different types of grease that are being used on the main bearings of the two cycle engines. I have some information that may be of interest to some of you. I decided to post it here because there seems to be a lot more traffic on this section. This is not a advertisement and I have no association with this company other then purchasing their products because they are excellent.

I have been using the Opti-Lube Lithium Block Grease for a couple of years now on my two cycle engines with no problems. (Detroit Stationary engines). The cone penetration is D217 That puts the grease between a #3 and #4 on the ASTM Test Method Specifications. (Medium to Hard grease). The spec's are listed below. It is normally sold in 50 lb boxes, 4”x4”x8” blocks but they will sell in smaller quanities if you ask them. Its Cheaper by the pound if you buy the larger block.

Opti-Lube Severe Service Lubricants.

I have been using some "fibrous Barium grease" that I was given as a gift in the bearing grease cups of my engines. It's very good at sealing and lubricating. You have to have a screw-down grease cup. It does not work so good(does not come out like you might expect) on the automatic type grease cup. This stuff is the consistancy
of cold peanut butter. I would assume that hard grease would be like cold taffy or cold carmel??
(don't try this at home kids)

Tom,
thats all well and good...Barium...that doesn't bring back fond memories. I hope your engines like it better

And by the way
The lubriplate 115 that I ordered from Lubriplate came. It looks good. By the way the price of 12.85 includes shipping. So if you find it cheaper check what the shipping cost will be.

Thanks for the information I will follow-up on this. I know of three other collectors that are looking for some grease. Not sure what problems will be bring across boarder into Canada.
