Is she easy to start? If so leave the air valve alone.
Under load does she run freely(no popping, missing etc?)
Do you find she wants to "four stroke at certain
rpms?
What carb is she running, what thickness wire in the spring behind the air vavle?

Pench ,One thing I am trying to get around ,is all the far corners us slightly "bent" lovers of old
engineering come from.Maybe it should be "flagged"
where we are living.I am in Nsw Australia
I run a small "Hole in the wall"mechanical amd
engineering company.
Not good at computors, but stagger through
I am better at hearing at greater detail,ie voice
via phone the problems we all suffer dealing with
iron works of art that have been through many hands and have consequently"morphed" into something entirely different from the original specs
My phone is Aus (02)43297990hm 43631361wk

HELP>>>>
I have rebuilt a Blaxland 3.5 Pup.
I have read the hints from all and sundry, but, I can't get it to run with out back firing. Cleaned the engine bits, new gasket kit from Jacobs, re assembled the carby as per hand book but still goes bang. I live in Darwin and want to tow her down to the Davistown Regatta if I can get the F*%^#@ thing running. Any ideas??????
Wally

Wally ...probably the ignition is too retarded.Try seting the magneto points to open about 1/8th before TDC.
If it is ''Spitting'' back as against back fireingit is that the mixture is to lean[ to much air] give it a bit more petrol.
