I have inherited a 1958 Seahorse that once belonged to my Great-granddad. It will idle fine but when in gear and at higher rpms will shut off if I do not pump the fuel manually. I have added a fuel pump to make it work with the newer gas tanks, but it used to do the same thing with the pressurized tank system. I am thinking that it needs piston rings (possibly low compression causing low vacuum?) but I cannot find them. I would also like to get new gaskets all around for the motor. After 50 years it would not hurt to give it a rebuild. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

If it starts easily and idles ok,dont bother about the rings etc, just check the whole fuel delivery system for leaks (air and fuel)most of the time the hose between the tank and the engine is the culprit
with either the fuel bulb internal valves sticking
or the o/rings at the 2 connections being perished
Check also any rubber seals for damage/perishing
around carby/fuel pump/
