Yeah, It was Dick who was wondering if anyone had some original info. I'm with you about this as the original shade. I'd take a drop of lacquer thinner on a fingertip to the paint someplace out-of-the -way to see what it looked like.

After collecting/restoring nautical items for over 40 yrs and to see the excellent original condition and 100 yr patina on this engine and think of painting it ?? my vision for this fine old engine would be to clean it as carefully as I could LEAVING all the natural patina and get it in running condition.
Albeit : Class and beauty is in the eye of the beholder !

You can make something new but only time can make something old.

I recently aquired a Regal like this, must be a later model, has a piston oil pump parralel to the water pump, I'll have to get some pictures of it. We ran it a while back, low on compression at first, Larry Prejean has an electric motor and belt rigged for starting. After running it picked up compression and hand starts fine now.
