I have recently aquired a Meitz and weiss single
cylinder marine engine.I am mostly into stationary farm engines which this company also produced. They are extremely rare as farm engines and aparently from the lack of info about their marine stuff they must be equally as rare.Who has some info for me?The engine is not stuck, and appears to be fairly complete, although without some info and pics it is hard to say what is missing.Their is just the engine, no reversing gear which I believe all inboards are to have, and their is no water pump which I am sure it must have as well.It has a fuel pump and the two injectors on the side complete with the sight glasses and the ignition bulb and cover on the head.I would appreciate any info anyone may have on this engine.I would also be interested in selling or perhaps trading.
Thanks

I am the new owner of a Mietz & Weiss single cylinder marine engine. Maybe the exact one mentioned previously. I am in need of some assistance as to a part missing in the fuel injection operation. I have the injector, pump, half the pump lever but there seems to be a piece missing between the lever and pump plunger. M&W brochure shows no governor on the singles only on the twins so I am thinking some kind of hand throttle ? Any thoughts ? Thanks Brian t

Brian,
Hope this site can help with your request. You have such a rare bird, that there isn't much info out there.

Brian,

Can you post some pictures of your engine. That may help others find the info you need...

Very nice Brian. Thanks for posting some pictures. Are there any similarities to your stationary? Did they use the same bulb, injectors, pump or ...? A rare bird indeed.

Thanks again, Blair.

Hi Blair: Hot bulb is about a 1/4" smaller in dia. This is supposed to be 3.5 hp and my stationary is 4 hp. Lubricators are the same and the injection pump is similar but thats about it. Brian

Interesting how the oiler is pressurized off the cylinder. Where was the engine found?

My stationary is lubed the same way. Some of the smaller ones had oilers but both my 4 and early 12 hit and miss governing have oil tanks and vacuum feed oilers. There are check valves in the oil lines to keep the oil flowing into the engine. Previous owner said it came from New Brunswick. While die grinding the cracks one of the pieces popped out and I found the water jacket jammed right full of sand and scale. I'm not sure if it never got cleaned out at the foundry or they sucked some sandy water in but there seemed to be quite a layer of scale on the cast iron. Is this what salt water would do ?
