Recently I found a very small one cylinder 4 cycle marine engine. On the tag it says " made by United States engine co. Oshkosh Wis." Does anyone know anything about this brand and when it was made. It is not real old as it has a Wico Mag,or it did before somone removed it and the carburetor. I was able to find a mag and a Schebler, it seems to run very well. Its compression is such I find it difficult to crank now.

Wasn't it United States motors that cast there own blocks and put Briggs & Stratton internals in them, I have a couple of them on generators
I know there were several sizes model Z, NPW, possibly model B

This is one of several engines made by Doman. Some were sold as Domans and others were sold as Gray's. I have that exact engine and it says Gray Model 0. My neighbor has that engine but with wiper ign, no mag., and it says Doman. I will try to send a picture of both engines. They were made around 1920 plus or minus a few years.

*

United States Motors Corporation / or United States Engine Company took over Universal Motor Co., Bull-Dog & H.C.Doman, Co.in 1927 the trade name became U.S.Falcon.
This is not written in stone But it looks like H.C.Doman sold the mfgring rights to several Companies before being bought out ?

Thank you so much for your beautiful photos, kind of makes mine look rather junky. I did find a Wico, and I had a 3/4 Schebler. It now runs very well. It looks like I will have to find a brass Zenith like in the photos to be more correct. Thanks again to all who responded, I really appreciate the information. Chuck Fanucci

I located the dipstick today and was able to nudge it loose. I had added oil before I started it but wasn't sure how much. I was happy to find the dipstick, but was surprised to note that there are no marks on it to indicate full or empty, just a plain stick, not much help, does anyone know how much its supposed to have, right now it is throwing a lot out so I guess its too much!!

I think you should have 1&1/4" on the stick

Two items.
1. Remove the side plate and put in enough oil that it just touches the crank when at the bottom of its stroke and note the place on the dip stick. Any more will throw oil out the breather and lifter holes, much less and the rod mounted slinger will miss the oil. This has worked great for me. Mine has a cork (old one has been replaced with a wine cork) float and a wire that shows on a scale at the bottom of the cylinder case casting.
2. Does anyone have a ¾ Schebler that they would part with? As you can see my engine has a Tillotson and I have a second unrestored, complete back up but would really like a ¾ Schebler. I would part with the Tillotsons and I also have 1 inch restored Schebler that I would part with if I could find a ¾ inch one. Please let me know, OK?
