Does anyone know of a source for the bluish gray paint used on a lot of the 20's era engines. Either in a rattle can or as a sprayable acrylic enamel.

Thanks

Bob,
I use Plast-coat engine paint. It seems to be indestructable and also not very sensitive to heat or surface prep. I never use any primer and have old engines that have been run and moved around for over 15 years and still look good. Also repairs from me banging them around are easy.

I use 216 New Ford Gray on most of my old stuff.

Hope this helps
Ernie

A very close match to the blue/gray on my newly acquired Niagara Special is PPG's # 552-6 Marine Enamel. The base material, 727-02 Deep Base is mixed with the colorant to make the right color.

One problem is that it doesn't come in a rattle can so spraying requires use of a spray gun. A quart is approx. $13.00 plus some tax.

Folks,

I use Rustoleum's Professional Spray Paint. They have a machine grey that works perfect for me. Goes on nice, doesn't run and dries fast. I painted my 8 Hp Acadia with it. Great stuff. Don't get their regular grade spray paint. Order the Professional, it makes all the difference in the world. I also painted one of my lathes with it.
