John......some times we put in a please or even a thank you.
However, A model BM which is a 2.5 BHP single cylinder engine runs at 1000 rpm. This engine has a bore and stroke of 2.75 x 2.75 inches, weighs 195 lbs and cost 122 pounds Stirling in 1960.

The nearest i can get to your 6 1/2 HP engine is the E10 ,this is rated at 10 BHP at 1100rpm ,two cylinders , bore and stroke of 3.5 x4.5 inches, weight 490 lbs and cost 178 Pounds Stirling in 1960.
There is a 5 BHP engine ,the Model A, but it is a single cylinder .
There are a series of vaporizing oil engines ranging from a 4 to a 16 BHP.
All manufactured by Brit Engineering Co Ltd ,Bridport ,Dorset .
Hope this helps you .

Hello everybody.
I have an engine pretty similar to the boards logo engine but with a pan underneath.
It is 2.5 hp /1000 rpm two-cycle with a bosch
magneto co-coupled to the water pump with a middle gear behind the cylinder .Its built in 1957 .The carburator has the letters ACJ on it.
Please can any body recognize this motor?
I cant find nothing else written on it!

A head gasket for a Brit engine
Not very likely people have it spare, but in most cases it can be made easily. You need a peace of special iron reinforced and asbestholding packingsheat.
Hold the sheat on the cilinderblock and cut the round holes with a light hammer with a round head, making many soft blows in order to forecome damage to the block. This type of hammer you often find in sets for car damage.
To fasten the head again and you are not very experienced you need a moment-wrench to give the right tension to the bolts of the head.
I made one for an Albin engine lying for anchor on a lake. Getting ashore with the byboat and train and taxi to get the piece of packing and lending the hammer and the wrench. The next day we could continue our vacation.

I have just come across this forum whilst looking to see if there is anything on the internet about my former employer, Brit Marine. I only worked there for about 18 months in 1983-84 and it was during this period that the company was taken over by Solent and Pratt and production of engines ceased and the remains of parts sold off.
I was originally employed as a turner but having served an apprenticeship as a toolmaker found myself doing all types of machining operations and eventually ended up in the fitting shop building boat engines.
My six months there was spent mostly rebuilding customers engines and assembling new ones. The only engines I worked on were Imps, Sprites and I rebuilt a Brit Minor.
By then they were outdated, expensive and thirsty, all running on petrol with a tvo option.
If there is any advice or information I can give I would be happy to do so although I was there for such a short period my knowledge is limited.

I emailed a man who was selling a 21 foot sailing boat. He said that at one time he fitted an inboard diesel engine but it was faulty and would never run properly so he removed it. Further enquiries revealed that the engine had been a Brit Imp and he said that the design of it was no good and that he had been cheated. Possibly some "reverse engineering" is needed?

HI.
I have a Brit 10Hp (Sprite). The hand start handle turns but does not engage the chain at the other end. Is there a shear pin on these systems? I can't see any other mechanical reason why the handle turns but the chain does not? Any advice welcome. Also where would I find any Brit spares. Thanks
