I have a 3/4 inch Schebler carb with some features I dont quite understand.
My carb has a rotating vent on the bottom of the casting to allow additional air into the throat. What is this for and how should it be adjusted.
My air horn has a spring loaded valve that completely closes off the intake. Seems like this would choke the engine and would run rich. Spring tension is adjustable but must be turned in enough to have the brass centering rod go thru the valve head. Is the spring supposed to just hold the valve closed lightly and how would I go about adjusting this spring for starting. Thanks for the help Jim.

I believe idle air comes through the bottom of this carb, the air horn is for "auxilary air". If you don't have the valve closed it won't run at idle, the air has to come up from the bottom to pick up fuel, when it speeds up it opens the valve, tightening the spring will make it richer at high speed, loosening will lean it out by allowing more air. Your low speed mixture is adjusted with the needle valve.
