This Mfgrs name is in the pre 1940 engine list on this web site, any catalogs or ads etc of this company and the years they mfgd engines ?

I can't believe you came up with that. I have a lot of first hand info I can share, but no engines and only one ad that doesn't show a picture.
When I worked in Camden the Neeff machine company was about a block away. Owned and run by a friend who bought it from Mr. Neeff. They still had the engine foundry patterns, but unfortunately it was before I was interested in old iron. It was a belt driven machine shop although by that time they had electric motors running the line shaft. The machine shop burned to the ground (complete loss) about 1982 (while I worked nearby). The owner set up shop again at the same complex where I worked, but none of the old engine patterns or parts remained.
I think I posted the one "Lion" ad that I have, but if not I could post it again.
I don't recall if it was a 2 cycle or a 4.
I would be very interested to know if anyone has ever seen one of the engines. Judging by the size of the shop, I doubt if very many were made.

My engine mfgrs list is in data base form so when I research something alot of cross references, similaritites etc pop up ! I was looking into eng mgfrs with a Lion as a tradename or logo. 5 references came up but only one had the "LION" tradename. Lion Motor Works Camden, New Jersey, reference MotorBoat Magazine Feb 10, 1914- no ad or photo ? With your info I'm wondering if Neeff was possibly a sucessor at some point or as in many cases a machine shop that produced the engine for the original designer ??

They were a very small shop and had the patterns right there in the shop. There were many foundries in Camden and Philadeliphia at that time. |

Thanks for posting the ad, I hadn't seen it before. Lets us know it was a 4 cycle engine.I'll enter Neeff into my mfgr list and cross reference to Lion Engine Works, hopefully some additional info will be found.
