During early 1900’s many books were published that explained gas engine operation in simple easy to understand language. Operation of all ancillary components, ignition, timing, carburetion, cooling water pumps, propellers etc were described in wonderful detail.

Since copyright has now lapsed, books published prior to 1923 are now available from booksellers as high quality POD copies (Print on Demand) at very attractive prices. Usually Google Books only publishes a snippet.

Carl Herbert Clarks 1910 publication Marine Gas Engines, Their Construction and Management at about $17 is exceptional. For those interested in understanding the principles of all the ignition system then used, I recommend Roger Bradbury Whitman’s 1912 publication Gas-Engine Principles at less than $20.

These are available on line from Amazon.com in USA or indigo.ca in Canada. Search for the authors name to locate Clarks or Whitmans book.

If interested in other old books about gas engines search using keywords nabu gas engines at either www.amazon.com or www.indigo.ca
