I still haven't been able to locate an early Pierce/Racine marine engine that was made in Racine. Does anyone have a lead as to where I can locate one? Thanks, Frank

Frank,

Are you wanting to purchase one of these engines or just locate people that have them? I think there are two or three collectors on the engine forums that own this type of engine but I don't think they want to sell.

I really like the sweeping manifold. But, I don't think the professional restorer got the ignition quite right.

I think his professional restorer has the flywheel on the wrong side, possibly the crank in backwards.

This solid flywheel cast swept exhaust Pierce is the second of this early design I've seen,I thought its crank was in reversed too. The consistant trait of Pierce engs up through the teens is the intake and intake heat stove ports are on the starboard side and Exhaust on port side, these two solid wheel engs comply ?
The later design engs with holed flywheels are consistant with timer front / wpump aft and intakes are consistantly starboard side, the even later design headless engs continue this trait.
Spent time months ago trying to get a photo ad or any info on these early solid wheel engs to find a date of mfgr but no luck yet.

1905 is oldest photo ad I can find so far, it
is a holed flywheel.

this is holed wheel eng in Clayton Museum
we discussed months ago here, the presumably hard starting one with the carb in the exhaust port.

That's my lesson for the day. After I posted I looked at the exhaust and it looked like it was in the correct position pointing to the rear. All of the Pierces I've seen until now have the timer behind the flywheel.
