If the needle valve needs reseating, as mine did, use a lapping compound such as Yellow medium TIMESAVER to reseat it. I used a 2" length of small plastic tube to rotate the valve against the seat. (Need timesaver? I share)
If the four stroke has an atmospheric operated intake valve it might be slow to close, resulting in a reverse flow through the carb. The D Schrebler "venturi" will suck gas in either direction, it may not all go back into the engine. The Schrebler has it's "operational characteristics." The gasket between the venturi and the bowl cover, a circle a little bigger than a quarter, is a must have or gasoline level will be all over the place. An "O" ring works great.

I noticed on my RW1 Palmer that the Schebler would drip gas when running but not when stopped.
This would seem to me to eliminate the needle and seat. I surmised that the vibration and shaking during operation was making the float (or should I say keeping the float) from stopping the gas soon enough. I tried lowering the float but it still dripped. I must admit that I have a lot of running engines with Scheblers that don't leak a drop. I would be interested to hear from others on this.

If you remove the main jet from the body in cleaning/overhaul, some times the hole in the main fuel/air passage gets opened up a bit and it will leak fuel from the bowl through the hole to the air passage.. Not to worry, a bit of gas tank sealer where it goes through the hole will stop this.

Timesaver Lapping Compounds are available from the manufacturer, MicroSurface Corporation. Their website is www.ws2coating.com for more information.

I cured one leak by rapping on the top of the float valve. This seemed to reseat the valve and the leaking stopped. There must be a gasket or O ring at the top of the throat and the cover. Note that the clearance between the top of the throat and the cover can be anywhere from a few thou. to an 1/8th inch so chose you gasket accordingly.
