I was thumbing through a 1914 Motorboating magazine this morning and ran across an ad for Watkins showing a pic of a twin cylinder two stroke with cast iron water jacket. I'm only familiar with the copper waterjacketed Watkins. Do we have any Watkins experts on the site?

An Expert is a "Drip That Was Under Pressure"

With that definition in mind I'm qualified to lend a little more light To The Watkins marine engine history.

1895 their were ads for F.M.Watkins Mfg Co.Cincinnati,Ohio, they advertised laundry machines, driers, washing and starching machines, gas and gasoline engines. Across the River in Covington Kentucky in the same years was an Engine maker-H.W.Sumner that mfgd stationary engines, within a few yrs Watkins was listing the Coventry address as the factory and business at the Cincinnati address !
These ads tell some of the history !
We think of Watkins marine engs as copper tops when indeed for the most of the yrs an array of cast iron engines were dominant ? the ads show two different styles of Copper top engs as well ?
1909 the company name changed to "Watkins Motor Company"

Thanks Richard - I've been on computers lately that I can't make work the way I want.

I have half of a Watkins copper top - pretty sure it's the 1911 style.
