Looking at connecting an early trans to newer engine, The Transmission is 6 to 8 Hp, at 1000 RPM. My engine is Briggs and is rated a 6 Hp at 3600 RPM's. Is the RPM going to be a problem.

@ 1000 RPM that Briggs will only develop 2 to 3 HP
You will need a gear reduction or choose a different motor |

You might also find that running the transmission at 3600 rpm will cause some significant vibrations since the transmission was not designed for such a high speed and its internal components were not balanced for such a high speed.
However, you probably won't be running the engine at the rated speed so you might be able to use it - But I'd do a bench test of the hook up if I was trying this.
Certainly the transmission components will be able to handle the torque produced by your Briggs engine.
