Ingram-Hatch Motor Co, Staten Island, built 2Cyl 2 Cycle vertical air cooled marine engines per ads in 1916-18...
They also supposedly built a 4Cyl, 4 cycle air cooled inline Kero engine for their proposed car, the Ingram-Hatch. A prototype chassis was built and shown in 1917; a picture shows a 4Cyl inline motor, cyl's cast separately.
Does anyone here have an old engine book that mentions Ingram-Hatch, and, if so, is there any mention of the 4cyl???
So far I've found nothing to actually prove a running 4cyl was built; auto show reports I've found don't mention if chassis ran under own power or not.
Any comments appreciated.

The automobile endeavor didn't seem to successful but appears that marine engines were manufactured for several Years !

Richard, many thanks...
My ISP switched from Google to Yahoo (I don't know why) and Yahoo just doesn't pick up the old stuff. I know a lot of the annual marine engine lists are online;I probably forgot to switch back to Google in the middle of this.
Again, many thanks!!.

Looking into Ingrams history it appears he had tried to bring about the 4 cycle engine for auto / trucks and chassis beginning here in 1915, several articles of his struggle to get capital to expand and actually make this engine are still mentioned in this May 31, 1917 article, ingram was out of business in 1918, would indicate that his endeavor was not met and the engine was never manufactured ???

Here is more historical info. I think they were also involved with Stamford power vehicle or some name like that.
I had a Hatch engine. I think John S or Jeff K have it now.
It was made in New London, CT. From what I found many years ago they did manufacture engines there not just badge engineer them. Note the 1901 date

Ernie, name was close enough to ring a bell and tie these companies together and solve a several year dilemma !

International Power Vehicle Company established 1901.

1NPOVCO

Walter P. Hatch President

inpKer

1911 articles announced the new company Hatch Oil Engine Co. president, designer and patent holder--Walter p. Hatch- but I could never find the patent in his name ?

The 1901 date mentioned in your ad above goes back to International Power Vehicle Company, and I believe these patents were the source.
Patents by Wolcott Remington 1903, US 903774 A, US 951093 A, Also designer Feodor Hirsch.

I think its another piece of Old Marine Engine history put in place !

It's interesting that patent dates back to 1901 are listed on the tag, but company wasn't formed until 1906. Based on the dates Richard, can you track the patent holder?

These posts were very confusing, Chronologically
it goes like this.

1.1901-05 "International Power vehicle Co."

The origin of the patents

Patents by Wolcott Remington 1903, US 903774 A, US 951093 A, Also designer Feodor Hirsch 1901

2. 1906-09 "International Oil Engine Co."
(Keith's engine)

3. 1910-11 "American Oil Engine Co."

4. 1911-14 "Hatch Oil Engine Co."

5. 1915-18 "Ingram-Hatch Motor Co."

Companies 2.-3.-4.-5. were successors to the original International Power Vehicle Co. started by Walter P. Hatch. Hatch was president of each
successor company as well, don't know why so many name changes it was usually a companies difficulty with enough profits to substantiate themselves and new name every time new investors were brought in ?

The Union engine has patents starting in 1885 on the tag, I believe the company was formed in 1891. I'll have to search it, probably Regan's patents.

Thanks Richard, I don't remember Regans first name, but I believe he invented the igniter around 1885, I'll have to go back in my union info to find out. There were lawsuits over infringments, he ended up with Union.

From my notes.

Daniel Regan patented Ignition System in 1880's. A patent dispute with The Pacific Gas Engine Co, This law suit resulted in a merger, and Union Gas Engine Co was new name.
The names in above post had patents with Pacific and Union !

Great old stuff!
